Chambers Ireland welcomes the European Council’s approval for Brexit negotiations to proceed
15th December 2017
Chambers Ireland Chief Executive Ian Talbot commented, "Today's decision by the EU27 leaders is further reassurance of the fortitude and depth of the agreement struck between negotiators last Friday.
We now look forward to the next stage of the negotiations, which will focus on the future trading relationship between the EU and the UK and we welcome the commitment being given to Ireland’s unique circumstances into the next stage of negotiations.
We call on both negotiating teams to agree a realistic length, status quo-like transition period following the UK’s departure, ensuring that the UK remains in the Customs Union and the Single Market for the duration of the transition period, with all the appropriate rights and obligations, to ensure the highest degree of certainty and predictability for the business community.”
