Green light for new Arden water plant

OFFALY county council has given the green light for a new water treatment plant at Arden, Tullamore.

The development will comprise an extension of the existing site to incorporate additional lands to the east, construction of a 1,370sqm treatment plant process building.

Refurbishment to the existing 25sqm single storey Arden water treatment building and a new entrance at the existing plant.

The plant supplies 18,000 people in Tullamore and the surrounding area.

Irish Water say: ''The upgrade works will provide a more reliable and secure water supply for residents and businesses in the town. The proposed project will also include a new treated water storage reservoir at Arden, upgrades to the existing borehole water sources, a new borehole and new raw water rising mains to deliver water to the new treatment plant.''
