Stars for Tullamore Sports Fest Launch
22nd August 2017
THIS year Tullamore has been nominated as the Healthy Town of Ireland in association with Phizer and in conjunction with the European Week of Sport, a sports festival will take place from 23rd-30th of September.
As part of this celebration of sport in town, organisers are looking for each individual club to run an event of their own. An opportunity for both the locals in Tullamore to open their eyes to the sporting opportunities in the town, and for the clubs themselves to recruit new members.
With the town now having three different racquet sports clubs, six full time gyms, four different soccer clubs, five different martial arts and boxing clubs, rowing and canoeing clubs, along with other well established local clubs including golf, rugby, cycling and athletics just for starters, it's clear that Tullamore caters for the sporting interests of the local people.
It is the organisers mission to raise awareness about these sporting opportunities. They are putting a large emphasis on getting the people of Tullamore to be more active. Studies show that by 2025, 38% of Irish men will be obese where as 37% of women will reach the same fate in eight years time.
With over fifteen clubs in the town already awaiting confirmation of events, organisers are hoping this will be successful enough to become an annual week in the Tullamore calendar. They are hoping to run a number of exciting events that week with appearances from a number of famous sporting faces.
The event is being launched this Wednesday night at 8.30 pm in the Bridge House Hotel and a host of local sports stars are expected to be in attendance.
