Town centre project early next year

OFFALY County Council now aims to begin work on the controversial Tullamore town centre enhancement plan in January.
A meeting of the Municipal District was told yesterday evening (Tuesday, September 12) that the design is almost complete and the project will then go out for public consultation.
"That consultation will be ongoing with the expectation that we'll bring a report on the Tullamore Street Enhancement to the November meeting of the County Council, with a view, if at all possible, to start tendering in December so we could be starting as close as possible to January," Tullamore district manager Sean Murray told councillors.
A reduction in the number of car parking spaces in O'Connor Square dogged the plan for most of this year and a final proposal will now be put before the public.
